Electrical Engineering Intern- Summer

The Electronics Center of Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) business unit designs and develops electronics for sensors used in space and airborne applications. The Center is seeking 2014 summer intern candidates to work with and learn from senior engineers tackling very challenging projects. Interns are given real-work assignments in keeping with their skills and experience; this could include any combination of technical research, concept demonstration, product design or redesign work, technical documentation, unit or system test, manufacturing support, or technical presentations.

Recent interns have remarked that the internship program provided them challenging work, exposure to real-world projects, mentoring from experienced engineers, an opportunity to work with advanced equipment, insight into work life in a large company, help in deciding their future career directions, and excellent networking opportunities with other interns and professional engineers.

Basic qualifications are:

  • a strong academic record - particularly in math, science and engineering, as evidenced by a consistent or improving record of high grades (As and Bs),

  • technical success with challenging science or engineering projects, including effective communication of project results in written reports and presentations,

  • level-appropriate skill in the use of computers for office tasks, research, analysis of numeric data, documentation, and presentations, and

  • the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

    Desired Skills:

  • experience and skill with data collection and analysis tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, or Mathematica. (Applicable to Salary Grade ST03, ST04, ST05)

  • experience and skill with EE design tools such as Mentor Graphics or Cadence (Applicable to Salary Grade ST04, ST05)

  • experience and skill with EE lab equipment such as signal sources, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers, (Applicable to Salary Grade ST04, ST05)

  • experience and skill with EE simulation and analysis tools such as PSpice, Agilent ADS, Ansoft HFSS, Sonnet, or Zeland IE3D, (Applicable to Salary Grade ST04, ST05)

  • related experience as an intern or co-or, or equivalent research activities demonstrating professional development and application of engineering skills (Applicable to Salary Grade ST05)

  • Academic record will be reviewed as to breadth and depth of courses taken, relevance to the work of the Electronics Center, grades earned relative to the difficulty of the courses undertaken, difficulty of projects completed, individual contribution and achievement, and similar evidence of strong academic performance.

  • Other considerations relevant to working effectively in the Raytheon engineering environment include the ability to work independently without close supervision, to work well in teams, to communicate effectively both informally (e.g. conversation or email) and formally (e.g. reports or presentations), to work diligently, and to conduct oneself professionally and ethically.

    This position can be a Salary Grade ST01, Salary Grade ST02, Salary Grade ST03, Salary Grade ST04 or Salary Grade ST05 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

     


    • ST01 (Freshman) - must be enrolled and pursuing a bachelors degree
    • ST02 (Sophomore)- must have completed 30 hours of college
    • ST03 (Junior)- must have completed 60 hours of college

  • ST04 (Senior)- must have completed 90 hours of college

  • ST05- (Post- Graduate) must have an undergraduate degree and currently seeking a graduate degree

    Required Education (including Major):

    Satisfactory completion of all prerequisite courses as well as acceptance and enrollment for the following fall in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, physics, or closely related discipline at the appropriate grade level as described above  prior to the start of the internship in the summer of 2014.
