Job Description:

We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern to support a NASA's EOSDIS Evolution and Development (EED) program , which involves the maintenance and evolution of the EOSDIS ECS system. The ECS system ingests, distributes, and stores on-line earth science data gathered from operational earth observing satellites and is currently operational at 3 NASA Data Centers.  The system runs on a Linux platform and is implemented largely in Java and C++.  The ideal candidate will be a highly enthusiastic team member excited about learning new technologies and continually evolving an operational system. In this position, which is located in Riverdale, MD, the intern will have the opportunity to have hands-on development of new system capabilities.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • Proficiency in JAVA in a Linux or UNIX development environment

  • Good communication skills, and capable of working in a structured team environment with other software engineers

     

    Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with shell scripting, Perl, and C++, Ruby on Rails.  Some experience with database applications such as Sybase

  • Familiarity with JUnit and Selenium

     

    Required Education (including Major):

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mathematics

  • Must have completed Junior year but not started Senior year

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
