Job Description:
The Mechanical Optical Engineering Center (MOEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product producibility and mission assurance.  It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.

The candidate will work within one of the ten departments in the Mechanical and Optical Engineering Center.   Specific responsibilities will vary by department and experience by may include:  


  • Conceptual or detail mechanical design of space or airborne hardware.
  • Design or build of tooling and fixtures. Performance, structural and / or thermal analyses.
  • Designing and running engineering tests including thermal testing, vibration testing, and servo testing.
  • Vendor coordination and management optical measurements and metrology.
  • Optical alignment.
  • Optical analysis including ray - tracing.
  • Laser and photonics design and assembly.
Required Skills:


  • The candidate must be available for a minimum of ten weeks between May and October.
  • Additionally, the candidate must be able to work easily within a team environment.
  • Self Motivated and multi-tasker
  • The candidate should have strong technical aptitude as shown by strong grades or hands on mechanical hardware or optics experience.
Desired Skills:


  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Demonstrated leadership experience through school or extracurricular projects is a plus.
Required Education (including Major):
The candidate must be enrolled in an accredited degree program working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or a scientific field. With an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2017. This position is a Salary Grade ST02 (Sophomore by Fall 2014) - must have completed 30 hours of college by Spring 2014.
